Hugely admired and respected, Susan has made an enormous impact in the musical life of the country for many years. A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, where she studied voice, Susan divides her time between her work as a Choral Director and Music Educator. She was the Musical Director of the highly acclaimed Scunthorpe Co-operative Junior Choir for well over 30 years and conducts other choirs on a regular basis or as a guest conductor. Numerous awards over the years have mounted up, culminating in the British Empire Medal ‘for services to music” in 2019 in the late Queen’s Birthday Honours List, and an honorary doctorate from Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln in 2021.
Caroline Clemmow was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where she won many prizes for both solo and ensemble playing. As a chamber musician, she worked with many significant groups and recorded a series of piano trios on the Naxos label. An important part of her work was the celebrated piano duo with the late Anthony Goldstone, who died in 2017. Described by Gramophone magazine as “a dazzling husband and wife team”, they were critically acclaimed for pioneering broadcasts and a large recording output, including a 7 CD cycle of the complete original piano duets of Schubert. Caroline was an Associated Board examiner for many years at both grade and diploma levels and currently combines adjudicating and teaching alongside concert-work.
