Gainsborough Choral Society’s next concert entitled ‘Sunset’ is on Saturday 23rd March at 7.30pm in All Saint’s Church, Gainsborough DN21 2JR. The programme has been created to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the death of Richard Rollett, who was Master Sailmaker on HMS The Resolution for Captain James Cook’s second voyage. He lived the latter part of his life in Gainsborough, was buried in All Saint’s Church Churchyard and his headstone can still be seen inside the main entrance to the church.
The main work for this concert is ‘Rejoice in the Lamb’ by Benjamin Britten, and the other pieces include a number of maritime related works by Herbert Sumsion, Herbert Parry, and two recently compositions by Finnish composer Jussi Chydenius, ‘On a Windy Day’ and ‘The Sound of the Sea’. The programme is completed with the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in C by Stamford.
