East Markham’s Apple Day is always the busiest day in the village year with many hundreds attending from the locality and further afield. This year’s Apple Day (and extra days to Pick Your Own) is on Sunday 6th October from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
Apple Day comprises activities all day in and around the East Markham Village Hall and adjacent Hempsall Heritage Orchard. It is particularly poignant this year as Councillor, Farmer, Apple Maestro and Founder of the Heritage Orchard, John Hempsall, died earlier this year so 2024 will feature as a tribute to all his many contributions.
The Hempsall Heritage Orchard features 300+ varieties of apples. Apple Day includes free apple-juice tasting, a new Apple Recipe Book – including free tasting tables – Pick Your Own Apples at bargain prices, an Apple Advice Centre, multiple trading stalls related to apples, general gardening, local produce and arts and crafts, and children’s activities including an Art Competition. Refreshments include a café, pork and apple cob lunch and cider bar; all-day entertainment includes various music acts, Morris dancers, steam engine, raffle etc.
Find the Village Hall at NG22 0SS and there is free street parking. For safety / hygiene reasons dogs are not allowed in the Village Hall (except guide dogs).

Please note that whilst individual traders attending the event may be able to offer payment by card, many transactions on the day (including refreshments, PYO apples, raffle, cider bar etc) are cash only and do not offer payment by card facilities.
Significant profits from the events are donated annually to local charities including Hospice, Children’s Charities, Agricultural Charities etc.
