Organisers of this year’s Retford Christmas Market and Lights Switch-On have planned a full programme of activities to ensure there is something for everyone as the town embraces the festive season on Sunday 26th November:
Pilgrims 5k Fun Run — with Bassetlaw Hospice
The first Pilgrims fun run in Retford… as far as we know… commemorating the Mayflower Pilgrim families and their supporters, who came from the area around Retford. Run or walk, it will not be timed and there will be no official certificates.
Bassetlaw Hospice is the preferred sponsorship partner, so please raise as much as you can for this very worthwhile local cause — organisers suggest setting a target of £20.20, as 2020 will be the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Pilgrims’ journey to the New World.
The run starts at 9.00am, with registration from 7.00am. Please pick up a sponsorship form from Bassetlaw Hospice shop, The Hub, Spencer’s on the Square, Bassetlaw Museum, St Swithun’s Parish Church, and Grove Street Methodist Church.
Children are free to enter as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult. The adult entry fee is £10.00 in advance, plus booking fee (via Eventbrite). If you leave it to the last minute, entry on the day is £15.00. Pilgrim outfits (cape and hat) will be able to purchase for £6.00 each from the administration desk in the Market Square on the day.
Santa’s Funtime in the Buttermarket
See Santa arrive at 12.00pm. Entry to Santa’s Grotto is though the Buttermarket where there will be a Retford stones game, photo booth, balloon twister, free face painters, singing princesses, character mascots, a magician and a soft play area for younger children.
Collect a passport and stamps at the Buttermarket, the Griffin Showtruck on Grove Street, Bassetlaw Museum, Grove St Methodist Church, St Swithun’s Parish Church, and the Hub — enter your passport at the IndigoBlu market stall for the chance to win a chocolate hamper.
